Styling the reader and embed

Every share link and embed can be styled to look like it belongs to you rather than to us. Colours, the reader’s chrome, whether the title shows, how pages are laid out, and — on Agency plans — your client’s logo inside the reader.

Three levels, and each one is a default the next can override:

Level Where Applies to
Workspace Settings → Branding Everything you publish
Client A client’s Settings dialog That client’s documents
Document The document’s Appearance tab Just that document

So an agency sets a house style once, gives a client their own, and still overrides a single document when a campaign needs something different. A document set to Inherit follows the client; a client set to inherit follows the workspace.

The canvas the pages sit on. Light, dark, or any colour you like — pick a hex value and the reader works out whether its controls need to be light or dark against it, so text never ends up unreadable on your brand colour.

The chrome around the document — toolbar, buttons, panels. Light, dark, or a custom colour, set independently of the canvas. A dark toolbar over a light canvas is a perfectly reasonable combination.

Show or hide the title in the reader’s top bar. Worth hiding when the document’s own cover already says what it is, or when the embed sits directly under a heading on your page that says the same thing.

How pages open:

  • Auto — a spread on wide screens, single pages on narrow ones. The right default for most documents.
  • Single — always one page at a time.
  • Spread — always two-up, like an open magazine.

Auto is worth keeping unless a document has been designed as facing pages that must stay together, or as standalone pages that must never be paired.

Agency and Agency Pro. Your client’s logo, shown inside the reader on every share link and embed. Upload a light and a dark version — both are needed, because the reader picks whichever suits the theme it ends up rendering, and one alone would be illegible against half of them.

You can also set where it sits and give it a click-through link to the client’s own site.

Colours, theme, title and page layout are on every plan, including Free — a reader should look like yours whatever you pay.

What the paid plans add is removing us and adding your client:

  • Free carries a small Living Page badge.
  • Solo removes the badge.
  • Studio and up add full white-label per client, so nothing in the reader points back at us.
  • Agency and up add the logo watermark above.

White-label and the watermark are re-checked on every page load, so if a workspace drops to a plan that doesn’t include them, published readers reflect that straight away.

Published share links and embeds are cached at the edge for speed, so an appearance change can take a few minutes to show up. A hard refresh usually brings it forward. Nothing is lost in the meantime — the old version simply serves until the cache turns over.

Styling applies to the reader inside the iframe. The iframe itself — its width, height and position — is controlled by your own page’s CSS, which we deliberately do not touch. See Embed on your website for sizing.
